School Safety at Chester Academy

School Safety at Chester Academy

Dear Chester Academy Families,

It is heartbreaking to hear about another tragic school shooting at an elementary school in our country.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones at Robb Elementary School in Uvedale, Texas. We are writing to assure you that during the remaining few weeks of school, we will be vigilant about keeping our school safe.

At Chester Academy, we approach safety through a combination of preventative and preparative measures. As you are aware, we are a locked and secure campus. No person is admitted into the school before being vetted by the front office. We have also incorporated many safety measures over the years including door closures, push button locks on every door, and additional cameras inside and outside of the building. When children are outside, staff carry radios, and are taught to be aware of their surroundings and report anything suspicious. We meet regularly throughout the school year with Chester’s Emergency Preparedness Team to ensure our unified emergency plan is up-to-date and that we are ready to respond in crisis and active threat situations.  Next year’s new principal, Sarah Muncey, has a July meeting scheduled for a School Security Assessment with NH’s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management so that we can take any additional recommended precautions.

We also continue to learn and develop measures to care for the emotional wellness of both students and staff so that we can better identify and meet their needs. Please let us know if we can support your child in any way and thank you for your continued partnership as we strive to ensure all children are safe and thriving at Chester Academy.

Sincerely,

Karen Lacroix, Principal
